Read the ERSA. Can’t say it enough. Tamworth Airport is a towered, security-controlled airport with specific arrival/departure routes and procedures and you will need to pay attention to specific geographic locations.
Tamworth Airport has quite a number of active flight-training organisations. Brush up on CTA and general radio procedures and use the magic word ‘UNFAMILIAR’ for extra assistance from tower. There are some CASA resources linked at the bottom of the page to help those not used to CTA. Tamworth Tower are a friendly bunch, make their day by being friendly back.
Take a good look at the airport on the Event Map in conjunction with the ERSA - zooming in and on the runways and taxiways will give you a great 'birdseye' perspective.
Aircraft Parking: For CT-4's, Aircruiser and Airtourers: On the taxiway, but ONLY as you are approaching the shadesails, stay on Tamworth Ground frequence and look for the marshalls who will guide you to your allocated parking. Please note CT-4s will take priority for shadesails, then Aircruiser and Airtourers. Other GA aircraft parking: Please familiarise yourself with the grass tie-down location which is just north of the shadesail parking (see Event Map).
Fuel: In addition to the self-serve AvGas bowser (see Event Map), a Northwest Aviation Fuels fuel truck (0419 424 834 - Oliver) will be available in the shadesail area from:
Saturday 9.30 to 10.30
Sunday 10.00 to 10.30 and
Sunday 12:00 to 13:00
Dave from Northwest Aviation Fuels will be waiving the fuel truck callout fee for our event aircraft during these hours, and is even knocking a couple of cents per litre off the Avgas. Further, if you need a top up of W100 oil, Dave has also kindly donated some bottles for top-ups - just ask. Lots of cheers for Dave and Oliver please!
Exit/Entry Airside - As per the ERSA, you must not give out the code to the airside access gate (see Event Map) and you must not allow anyone to tailgate you through the gates when accessing airside (they must put their own code in). Airport management have specifically requested that we advise you of this.
If you arrive between 10am and 4.30pm on Friday, you will most likely be greeted by an Airtourer Association member, either on the tarmac or as you exit the access gate - please follow their instructions.
If you arrive Friday, please don’t enter the Sydney Flight College unless instructed. (And please don’t wander around inside the building. This building is utilised by other flight training institutions NOT associated with our event. We must not go beyond our allocated areas - as per airport management.)
Transport to town: If you arrive early and would like transport to Sanctuary Inn - group up with others on the tarmac and grab a ShuttleLink 0401 966 646, Taxi 6766 1111, or an Uber. A trip into town will cost about $25-$30. The best place to position yourself for collection is out front of the Sydney Flight College building in the turning circle (see Event Map). Use the address 2 Packer Street, Westdale as the pickup address. You will also need to make your own way back to The Aero Club (see Event Map) to arrive at 5pm-ish for the commencement of festivities.
If you have a GoPro please bring it if you can for the Elephant Walk.
Yes, I know that's 11, but late addition - if you have a terry towelling bucket hat, bring that too!
