Merimbula has Rex and QantasLink flights, but operates under a CTAF. It is a security-controlled airport.
After landing, take taxiway A, B or C to taxiway D, and park on the grass in front of the Merimbula Aircraft Maintenance (Rex Koerbin's) hangar, off the main apron. The red X on the diagram below shows where the hangar is.
Don't forget to bring tie-downs and stakes! Tie down on the grass; don't block access to Rex's hangar! Do not park anywhere else. In particular, do not park on the soggy grass near the windsock!
You will need your ASIC or AVID and a hi-viz. After you have secured your plane, exit through the gate near the (lime green) terminal building.
Make your way to the (very) blue Merimbula Air Services building on the other side of the terminal building. That is where your local transport will depart, and that is where the Friday night welcome and pizza dinner will be held, starting at 5.15 pm.
If you arrive at a time where nobody is at Merimbula Air Services, you can contact Paul's Personal Transport to arrange to get to your motel.
Merimbula has Rex and QantasLink flights, but operates under a CTAF. It is a security-controlled airport.
Behind (on the north side) of Merimbula Aircraft Maintenance hangar, there is a sealed aircraft parking area. Last time we looked, there were no tie-down cables. If you are comfortable to park there, do so, but you will have to chock your wheels. (If unsure, phone the ARO on 0439 947 270 or 0439 955 458.)
Don't forget to bring your ASIC and a hi-viz.
There is a self-serve Air BP bowser near the windsock. It only takes Air BP carnet cards or the myairbp app.
You can, however, contact the fuel agent before 5 pm on 0439 955 458 to pay for fuel by credit card.
After collecting your bags, just walk out of the terminal building, turn right, and you'll see the (very) blue Merimbula Air Services building. That is where your local transport will depart, and that is where the Friday night welcome and pizza dinner will be held, starting at 5.15 pm. If you have given us your flight details, someone will be at the blue building to meet you.
The welcome at Merimbula Air Services (the very blue building next to the airport terminal building) starts at 5.15 pm on Friday.
If you are staying at the official accommodation venue Sapphire Waters Motor Inn, bear in mind that there is a similarly named motel (Merimbula Sapphire Motel). Make sure you go to the right one!
The correct address of Sapphire Waters Motor Inn is 32-34 Merimbula Dr, Merimbula NSW 2548.
Our Pilot Proficiency Programme (PPP) at Merimbula includes three short (20 minute) sessions, which we have called the Fast and Not So Furious 3™ . These sessions will be presented in the Tasman Room at Club Sapphire on Saturday afternoon, after the lunch run to Eden (non-flyers) or Mallacoota (flyers), starting at 3.30 pm.
The three are:
All about ASICs (Patrick van Prooyen, Aviation ID Australia)
Class 5 Medicals and more (Dr John Lancashire, Pilot Medicals Australia)
Plan, Land and Stay (Neil Bourke, Falco VH-DJD)
